2010 World Series of Poker Day 39: Day 1b of the Main Event Sees Larger Field
Day 1b of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event saw 1,489 players come to the felt hoping to make it all the way to the end. By the end of play Tuesday, however, about 500 were out of the running.
The Day 1b chip lead belongs to James Danielson who was the only player to amass a stack larger than 200,000. He will return for Day 2 with 201,050 in chips. Filippo Candio, Robert Miller and Jason DeWitt also ended the night with large stacks, making up the second, third and fourth spots on the Day1b chip count list.
DeWitt, a 2010 bracelet winner, took a large pot just before play wrapped up for the night to add to his chip stack and skyrocket near the top of the leader board. Nick Mitchell made a preflop raise to 950 from early position. DeWitt reraised to 2,600, and in turn, Jared Pacifici four-bet to 5,200 from the small blind. DeWitt responded with a five-bet to 10,600, Mitchell got out of the way and Pacifici went into the tank before he finally made the call. After a flop of K?2?2?, both players checked to see the J? on the turn. Again both players checked, turning an action-packed preflop showdown into a boring checking game. After the 4? opened up on the river, play heated up again. Pacifici checked but DeWitt fired out a bet of 12,500. After all that action, we never did get to see what they players were holding. DeWitt's bet on the river caused Pacifici to muck his hand after he likely missed a draw, and DeWitt raked in the pot.
Gavin Griffin, Johnny Lodden, Mathias De Meulder, James Dempsey, Alexander Kostritsyn, Jim Collopy and Phil Galfond will all be back for Day 2.
A few who won't be returning to the Rio for another day of Main Event action include Arnaud Mattern, Jennifer Tilly, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Ivan Demidov, Liv Boeree, Joe Sebok and Erick Lindgren.
The third of four day ones, Day 1c, will get underway Wednesday at 12 p.m. join us right here at www.hollywoodnorthmusic.com for all the updates.
