2012 PokerStars SCOOP Day 4: Second Career SCOOP Victory for Shaun Deeb

Day 4 of the 2012 Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) at PokerStars did not provide a win for Viktor "Isildur1" Blom, but it did for another notable online player. Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb won his second career SCOOP event in Event 10-H. Eleven others also notched first-place finishes on Wednesday.

PokerStars SCOOP 8-H: $1,000 No-Limit Hold��em Two-Day ($600K Guaranteed)

On Tuesday, 148 players survived Day 1 of SCOOP Event #8-H. The players came back on Wednesday, and among the many familiar names who cashed were Steve "gboro780" Gross (139th - $2,124.80), Bryn "BrynKenney" Kenney (125th - $2,390.40), Tom "kingsofcards" Marchese (109th - $2,523.20), Matt "ADZ124" Marafioti (76th - $3,054.40), Ashley "DYBYDX" Mason (70th - $3,320), Phil "USCphildo" Collins (68th - $3,320), Lauren "locoencabeza" Kling (59th - $3,585.60), Sotiris "SKWINNER" Koutoupas (55th - $3,585.60), John "kleath" Leathart (49th - $3,851.20), Rupert "ElRupert" Elder (45th - $4,249.60), and Jon "TherookieQQ9" Plens (37th - $4,249.60).

Only 34 players remained after the first five hours of play on Wednesday, with "B4d3m3!st3r" leading, followed by Nick "caecilius" Petrangelo and "Flying Smile."

A couple of hours after that the field was down to 18, with "B4d3m3!st3r" still on top and Martin Staszko as the short stack. Eliminations in the interim included Eugene Katchalov (32nd), Adrian "Adrian900123" Marin (30th), and Jonathan "MONSTER_DONG" Karamalikis (28th), who each earned $4,913.60.

It took another two-and-a-half hours to reach the final nine, with start-of-Day-2 leader "a$$ou" going out in 17th ($6,507.20) along the way. Here's how the stacks looked at that point:

On the second hand of the final table, "Flying Smile" and "swordfish007" engaged in a raising war following a K?4?Q? flop that ended with "Flying Smile" all in with Q?Q? against "swordfish007's" A?J?. The turn was the J? and river the 9?, bringing a backdoor flush for "swordfish007" and sending "Flying Smile" out in ninth.

Next it was "compris" all in before the flop with A?J? against "swordfish007" who had 8?8?. The board came 6?10?K?9?3?, and "compris" was out in eighth. Then "onesixty8" shoved a short stack from middle position with K?J? and got called by Staszko in the big blind with A?9?. The board came J?7?9?A?Q? �� a pair for "onesixty8," but two for Staszko, and they were down to six.

Later "B4d3m3!st3r" re-raised all in over the top of a Nick "caecilius" Petrangelo open and got a call, with Petrangelo showing A?Q? to "B4d3m3!st3r's" A?9?. The board came K?5?8?3?2?, and "B4d3m3!st3r" had added yet another big SCOOP cash to his resume with a sixth-place finish.

Iulian-Georgian "Ruxandescu" Ruxandescu was the next player to go after shoving all in with A?4? and watching "Pollopopeye" reraise to isolate with Q?Q?. The board came 7?6?6?4?2?, not enough for Ruxandescu who was out in fifth.

Next came a big hand between "swordfish007" and "Pollopopeye." Preflop the two went back and forth, but it ended with a six-bet shove from "swordfish007" with 5?5? and a call from "Pollopopeye" with J?J?. The board brought no help to "swordfish007," and just three remained.

Eventually Staszko saw his stack whittled down and was forced to go all in with 7?6? versus "Pollopopeye's" A?10?. The board ran out 9?10?2?Q?9?, and the 2011 WSOP Main Event runner-up was out in third.

Heads-up play began with Petrangelo at about a 2-1 chip advantage over "Pollopopeye." The latter proposed a deal, but Petrangelo said he'd rather play it out. Eventually ��Pollopopeye�� evened things up, then pushed out to a big lead of his own before taking it down.

Petrangelo had the button and min-raised. A call from "Pollopopeye" brought a J?8?2? flop that saw "Pollopopeye" put in a check raise. Petrangelo called and upon seeing "Pollopopeye" check the (5d} turn, he bet about half the pot. "Pollopopeye" called to see the 10? river and checked again. Another bet, this one for about 64 percent of the pot, came from Petrangelo. "Pollopopeye" responded by shoving with the bigger stack. Roughly 40 seconds passed before Petrangelo called all in with J?5? for two pair, but "Pollopopeye" had him beat with Q?8? for the rivered flush to earn the victory.

PokerStars SCOOP 8-M: $100 No-Limit Hold��em Two-Day ($300K Guaranteed)

Only 185 players made it through to the second day of play in Event #8-M. Eliminations that occurred before the field was reduced to nine included Benny "toweliestar" Spindler (79th - $800.35), Bal��zs "birs320" Botond (78th - $800.35), Patrick "pmahoney22" Mahoney (55th - $963.93), Jeremy "00psiedaisy" Fitzpatrick (40th - $1,156.71), Lex "L.Veldhuis" Veldhuis (35th - $1,256.03), Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb (33rd - $1,256.03), and Michael "mossified84" Skomac (16th - $1,723.39).

In the end, the final three players chopped up most of the remaining prize pool, with Taylor "tRaMp$d0PrAy" Paur grabbing the lion's share. Eventually Paur finished runner-up after losing a long heads-up battle to "sandman201."

PokerStars SCOOP 8-L: $10 No-Limit Hold��em Two-Day ($100K Guaranteed)

It took about five-and-a-half hours for the 276 returners to play down to the final nine, with Christian "C.K." Kruel (218th - $98.80), Smith "sjco22" Collins (179th - $105.53), Fellipe "FellipeNunes" Nunes (66th - $235.77), and Kyle "weekesy333" Weekes (35th - $359.28) among those falling short.

"EFIDON90" entered the final table with a huge chip lead, but by the time they made it to a six-handed chop, "MaTpacuk" was on top and would end the night in first place.

PokerStars SCOOP 9-H: $2,050 No-Limit Hold'em, Super Knockout ($400,000 Guaranteed)

Unsurprisingly, the "High" version of the NLHE Super Knockout brought out a lot of big names. The top 63 made the cash, and a number of those familiar usernames and avatars were gathered around the remaining tables when the money bubble burst.

The next stretch of eliminations included Anders "Donald" Berg (60th - $2,552.66), Nicolas "niccc" Chouity (58th - $2,552.66), Sam "SamSquid" Grafton (57th - $2,552.66), Anthony "wwwBTHEREcom" Gregg (53rd - $2,726.70), Benjamin "delaney_kid" Delaney (52nd - $2,726.70), Jo?o "joaobarb" Barbosa (46th - $2,726.70), Tim "Tmay420" West (43rd - $2,900.75), James "jcamby33" Campbell (42nd - $2,900.75), Stefan "I'amSound" Huber (35th - $3,190.82), Alex "J0hnny_Dr@m@" Zervos (33rd - $3,190.82), James "mig.com" Mackey (30th - $3,190.82), Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick (28th - $3,190.82), Grayson "gray31" Ramage (23rd - $3,480.90), Nicky "Cod Meharly" Evans (21st - $3,480.90), Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo (20th - $3,480.90), and Steve "gboro780" Gross (19th - $3,480.90).

With 18 left, David "Betudontbet" Emmons in front followed by Michael "YrrsiNN" Huber and "spirox21." Eventually the field was whittled to nine, at which point the stacks looked like this:

Not too long after the final table began, "sh4rk1e" was crippled in a hand versus David "Betudontbet" Emmons in which the latter's pocket kings beat "sh4rk1e's" Q?Q?. A few hands later "sh4rk1e" was all in with 4?4? against "upstrick77's" Q?J?, and when the board brought a jack "sh4rk1e" was out in ninth.

Next, Chris "Big Huni" Hunichen became short-stacked and shipped his chips with A?10? against the 6?6? of "spirox21." The board brought four small cards and a king �� no help for Hunichen who hit the rail in eighth.

"Rogl_MS" was the next to fall in seventh, suffering some bad fortune after going all in with A?A? against Watson's 9?9?, then seeing a nine flop and no saving ace come. Michael "YrrsiNN" Huber then followed in sixth when his A?K? failed to improve versus "spirox21's" 9?9?.

"Spirox21" took care of the next elimination, as well, this time using pocket tens to beat "upstrick77's" A?4? to knock the latter out in fifth. Watson then knocked out Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O'Dwyer in fourth when the latter's K?J? couldn't catch up to Watson's K?Q?. Watson collected yet another bounty to knock out David "Betudontbet" Emmons in third using pocket tens to beat A?K?.

Watson and "spirox21" then embarked on a marathon heads-up battle in which "spirox21" had the lead for much of the first half-hour. Watson was then in front for the next hour plus.

The pair moved past the 18-hour mark for the tournament, then came a huge hand in which "spirox21" reraise-shoved on a J?3?10? flop with Q?9? (open-ender) versus Watson's Q?J? top pair. "Spirox21" was at risk and after the 5? turn card was down to just a handful of straight outs. But the river brought the 8?, filling "spirox21's" straight and giving him a more than 3-1 chip advantage.

Shortly after that, Watson was all in with A?7? against the K?Q? of spirox21, and when the board came 3?K?9?3?7?, "spirox21" had grabbed the final knockout bounty to win the title.

PokerStars SCOOP 9-M: $206 No-Limit Hold'em, Super Knockout ($200,000 Guaranteed)

The "Medium" version of the NLH Super Knockout saw another doubling of the guarantee, with Dani "supernova9" Stern (31st - $906.83) and William "Altrum Altus�� Reynolds (12th - $2,418.23) among the late cashers.

After a nearly even two-handed chop between "blujays888" and "SenoiPomidor," the pair engaged in a lengthy heads-up battle before "blujays888" grabbed the title and SCOOP watch.

H]PokerStars SCOOP 9-L: $26 No-Limit Hold'em, Super Knockout ($100,000 Guaranteed)[/H]

The "Low" version of the NLHE Super Knockout also created a huge, guarantee-smashing bundle between the prize pool and bounty pool. A few late cashers included Rupert "ElRupert" Elder (258th - $102.41), Matthias "goodvibe1" Neu (107th - $158.49), and Tim "TurnRiva" Marsters (94th - $182.88).

Although fifth in chips to start the final table, "SilverSurfR1" quickly grabbed the advantage �� and a few extra knockouts bounties �� on his way to claiming the title.

PokerStars SCOOP 10-H: $2,000 Limit Stud ($25K Guaranteed)

A top-notch field of 64 came to play in the only strictly stud event of the SCOOP. Among those making deep runs but finishing short of the final table were Sorel "zangbezan24" Mizzi (21st), Eugene Katchalov (20th), Alex "joiso" Kostritsyn (14th), and Scott "BigRiskky" Clements (11th).

Shaun "shaundeeb" Deeb found himself in a familiar situation. On Day 2, he was short stack on the bubble in the Badugi event and following the elimination of Alex "skalexjung" Jung in 10th place, Deeb was the short stack on the final table and money bubble. However, as in the Badugi event, he pulled ahead and the unlucky bubble boy ended up being Jon "PearlJammer" Turner.

Here were the chip counts at the start of the final table:

Short-stacked George "Jorj95" Lind was the first to fall. He got his last few chips into the pot with 10?10?/5? against the K?7?/A? of "GVOZDIKA55." Lind failed to improve upon his pair of tens while "GVOZDIKA55" caught a pair of kings on seventh street to secure the elimination. "Speedpokah" exited shortly thereafter to Shaun Deeb. These were their hands in the end:

Action folded to "Speedpokah," who raised with the 5? showing, only to have Deeb reraise with the J?. The bring in folded, "Speedpokah" called, and the hand proceeded as such.

Deeb's straight was unbeatable as the meaningless seventh street officially ended "Speedpokah's" run in seventh place. Deeb proceeded to go on a rush and eliminated Pat Pezzin to take the chip lead. The cards were revealed on fifth street as Pezzin tabled 10?5?/5?A?2? to Deeb's 6?5?/4?Q?6?. With his sixes, Deeb was ahead and remained that way as neither player's hand improved any further.

The last of "GVOZDIKA55's" chips got into the pot with J?Q?/Q?9?10? for a pair and open-ended straight draw against "TheMuppet's" 2?9?/9?2?10? for two pair. The 3? on sixth street and A? on seventh street were bricks for "GVOZDIKA55," out in fifth place. George Danzer was the next out the door, surviving with a short stack for majority of the final table. He committed his remaining few chips with 10?J?/9?7? against James "Andy McLEOD" Obst who had J?3?/3?J?. Danzer made a pair of tens on fifth street but improved no further to finish in fourth place.

Obst and Deeb went back and forth for awhile as extreme short stacks before Obst finally succumbed to a third-place finish. His downfall came after two consecutive losing hands brought his stack from about 90,000 to 5,000. First, his {X}{X}/4?K?J?2?/{X} fell to the 9?Q?/9?5?6?6?/6? of "TheMuppet." Next, his {X}{X}/Q?J?10?9?/{X} came up short against the K?K?/6?3?3?A?/5? of Deeb. A few hands later Obst was done in third place.

At the start of heads-up play, "TheMuppet" held the lead with 184,904 to Deeb's 135,096. However, Deeb took over the lead and looked to be on the verge of taking it down an hour into heads-up duel. The chips were in on fourth street and Deeb revealed 6?6?/6?7? for rolled up sixes. "TheMuppet" tabled K?2?/2?9? and proceeded to hit the 2? followed by the 2? on fifth and sixth street, going on to win the pot. A stunned Deeb could only say "dshiadshidasdas," "wtf," "seriously," and "I was celebrating," over the next few hands as he looked to take back momentum.

It took a few more all ins, but Deeb finally got it done. Holding split fours and getting his opponent all in on fifth street, Deeb faded "TheMuppet's" overcards to secure the SCOOP victory.

PokerStars SCOOP 10-M: $200 Limit Stud ($25K Guaranteed)

Among those who ran deep in the medium stud buy-in were Anders "Donald" Berg (33rd - $437), Chad "ChadBrownPRO" Brown (32nd - $513), Dan "djk123" Kelly (23rd - $741), and Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick (17th - $741). Emerging victorious was "cyberkanguru," earning $14,630.

PokerStars SCOOP 10-L: $25 Limit Stud ($25K Guaranteed)

A field of 2,416 gathered for the low stud event, enough to more than double the guarantee. Ian "staknchips83" Gillespie made a deep run and finished in third place, but "HelKingPin" was the sole survivor for the $10,268.55 first-place prize.

PokerStars SCOOP 11-H: $670 Pot-Limit Omaha H/L 6-Max ($75K Guaranteed)

Shane "shaniac" Schleger found himself short stacked with seven players remaining but managed to gain some chips to pull ahead of other players. Ultimately, "Chipaccrual" exited on the final table bubble.

Here were the seating arrangements and chips at the start of the final table:

About 50 minutes passed before the first elimination. In fact, it was a double elimination. "HornyAnimal" was already all-in preflop, but Schleger committed the rest of his chips following the K?7?3? flop with A?A?J?7?. "HornyAnimal" tabled Q?10?9?3?, but that flush draw was in really bad shape against the A?6?3?2? of "lukro8." The 4? turn and 6? river gave "lukro8" two pair to win the high along with the nut low to leave only four players left.

"Lyndon360" was the next to fall, at the hands of "Milana Jones." A series of raises between the two saw each commit most of their stacks prior to the Q?J?4? flop. The rest went in after and "Lyndon360" showed A?A?10?6?. "Milana Jones" turned up A?K?6?4? and was quite an underdog. However, the 5? turn followed by the 6? river gave "Milana Jones" two pair to take down the pot.

A short-stacked "Aquasces1" departed next, getting it in with J?J?8?2? against the 10?9?5?3? of "Milana Jones." The board rolled out A?10?7?K?8? giving "Milana Jones" both halves of the pot to get the heads-up match started.

Still, "lukro8" commanded a 2:1 lead and ended the duel in 11 hands. The chips got in after an A?A?6? flop and "lukro8" turned over a monster �� A?6?5?3?. "Milana Jones" did have a better low draw with 5?4?2?2?, but the Q? turn and 9? river brought no low, sealing the deal for "lukro8."

PokerStars SCOOP 11-M: $75 Pot-Limit Omaha H/L 6-Max ($50K Guaranteed)

Andrey "Kroko-dill" Zaichenko (55th - $280.41), Jordan "iMsoLucky0" Morgan (50th - $304.27), and Roy ��GodlikeRoy�� Bhasin (39th - $387.80) put up nice showings in the medium PLO H/L 6-max affair. The best showing, though, and first-place pay day of about $20,000 went to "eityby55."

PokerStars SCOOP 11-L: $7 Pot-Limit Omaha H/L 6-Max ($25K Guaranteed)

Twelve hours after 5,925 players took to the virtual felt to play the low buy-in of Event #7, a winner was determined. Following a three-handed deal, "tourplaya" came out on top for a little extra cash and SCOOP victory bragging rights.
