Matt Kirby capped a successful Fall Poker Classic tournament series by winning the $1,000 Main Event on Oct. 20 at Canterbury Park. The 30-year-old tournament pro from Bemijdi, Minn., defeated 362 other competitors and captured the top prize of $84,502.

The 14th edition of the Fall Poker Classic consisted of 34 events over 17 days at the Shakopee, Minn., card casino and racetrack.

Kirby set the tone for his impressive Fall Poker Classic by winning the first event of the series on Oct. 4. In the opening $340 No-Limit Hold'em event, Kirby bested a field of 417 entries to win $28,516. He also made the final table in two other events, placing sixth in both the $550 No-Limit Hold��em event for $5,354 and the $550 Six-Max No-Limit Hold��em event for $4,540.

It was these results that earned Kirby the title of "King of the Classic," an award presented to the individual with the best cumulative performance prior to the Main Event.

The King of the Classic prize included a Main Event entry, and Kirby went on to dominate play on the second day of the Main Event and eliminated many players en route to the title. In total, Kirby earned $122,912 in prize money.
