Season 5 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) is about to come to an end. From Dec. 6-14 the MSPT will host its last stop of the season at Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minnesota. The stop, which was home to the first-ever MSPT, will culminate with a $1,100 buy-in $200,000 guarantee Main Event from Friday, Dec. 12 through Sunday, Dec. 14.

Canterbury Park has been a staple on the MSPT schedule dating back to the beginning, said MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski. Last year the Player of the Year race literally came down to the wire as several contenders made the last final table, and it looks like another close race will see it come down to our last stop yet again.

Indeed, the MSPT Season 5 Player of the Year race is tight among a handful of players. Mike Deis currently leads with 3,350 points, but not far behind at 3,150 points is MSPT Team Pro Kou Vang, while Jason Zarlenga, who has won two events so far this season, sits in third with 3,100 points. Others still in contention are Blake Bohn (2,900 points), Michael Lang (2,750), and Mark Johnson (2,600).

The last time the MSPT visited Canterbury Park, which requires patrons to be just 18 years old to play, the tour set a state-record of 447 entrants, which shattered the guarantee by creating a $447,000 prize pool. Mike Wilmes emerged victorious in that event to capture the $108,984 first-place prize. Other past winners of the MSPT Canterbury include John Dragich (Season 1 for $34,765), Jason Senti (Season 2 for $38,540), and MSPT Team Pro Kou Vang (Season 3 for $64,645), just to name a few.

The MSPT Canterbury Park will kick off this Friday, Dec. 5 at 2:30 p.m. with a $260 qualifier, which will see the top 20 percent of the field advance to the Main Event. They will then host a series of qualifiers all week leading up to the $1,100 Main Event, which will have its final table live streamed using RFID technology on a 15-minute delay with hole cards on both MSPTPoker.com and PokerNews.com. Additionally, the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on hand to report all the action in our live blog.
