PokerStars to Host Largest-Ever Buy-in Online Tournament on September 20

Super High Roller tournaments are common in the live poker world, but not so much online, until now. PokerStars, the world's biggest online poker site, has announced they will include a $50,000 Super High Roller during the next edition of the World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP).

Scheduled for Sunday, September 20 one week prior to the $5,200 buy-in WCOOP Main Event the $50,000+$1,000 Super High Roller is sure to attract some of the world's best-known players to the virtual felt; in fact, the site believes at least 40 players will compete in this historic event and have slapped a $1 million guarantee on the tournament.

Two players who are already confirmed for the event in PokerStars Team Pros Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier.

"I think it only makes sense that the world's largest poker site is also the host of the largest buy-in online poker tournament ever." - Daniel Negreanu

Speaking of the Super High Roller, Negreanu said that decision to run a $50,000 buy-in makes perfect sense for an online poker site like PokerStars.

"Over the last few years we have seen the emergence of Super High Roller events at live events across the globe," Negreanu said. "I think it only makes sense that the world's largest poker site is also the host of the largest buy-in online poker tournament ever. I'm excited to test my skills against the best of the best online.

Mercier, who won his third World Series of Poker bracelet this summer, is also eager to play in the new Super High Roller.

"I'm really excited about playing in the biggest buy-in online tournament ever. It'll be an awesome challenge to go up against such tough competition for the biggest stakes! I can't wait."

Players such as Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Vanessa Selbst, Barry Greenstein, Eugene Katchalov, Theo Jorgensen, Johnny Lodden and Team Online Isaac Haxton are no strangers to big buy-in events, so don't be surprised to see some of the Team Pros to jump into the mix.

The UK should also be well-represented in the field with high-stakes regulars such as Sam Trickett, Team PokerStars Pro Jake Cody, Chris Moorman, Paul Newey, Talal Shakerchi, Charlie Carrel, Patrick Leonard, Toby Lewis, and Max Silver all well-versed in big buy-in events.

The only other WCOOP tournament locked into the schedule is the $5,200 buy-in $10 million guaranteed Main Event that runs at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 27. Satellites into the 2015 WCOOP Main Event are running now in the PokerStars lobby and start as low as a single Frequent Player Point (FPP) or $1.65.
