The New Jersey Online Poker Briefing: Yong Kwon Propels to No. 1 After Shipping the $50K Gtd
In back-to-back weekends, all of the major tournaments in New Jersey regulated online poker rooms exceeded their posted guarantees. Action is expected to heat up next week when the Garden State Super Series (GSSS) returns for its fourth edition on partypoker NJ and BorgataPoker.com with 62 tournaments along with a combined $1 million in guaranteed prize pools.
The biggest winner in the Garden State over the weekend was Yong "OWNEDLOLUMAD" Kwon after shipping the partypoker NJ/BorgataPoker.com $50,000 Guarantee for an impressive haul of $11,480. Kwon previously shipped this tournament in May 2015 for an equally impressive $11,114.
As is usually the case, the second biggest win came in the WSOP.com NJ/888poker NJ Sunday $30,000 Guarantee when "youdontknow" finished on top of the 187-player field to take home $9,441.
Notable players on the final table in this tournament included Anthony "l0lflawless" Maio (second place - $5,507), Michael "itWasThatOr0" Gagliano (third place - $3,147), Sean "ur555im666" Martin (fourth place - $2,448), and Chris "cbinz" Bindshedler (sixth place - $1,748).
Jake Schafer also had a big weekend, appearing on the final table of three major tournaments. On partypoker NJ, where Schafer plays under the screenname "takeawalk", he took fourth place in the Daily $10K for $941 before hauling in another $708 for his seventh-place finish in the same tournament on Sunday. His biggest cash, however, came on WSOP NJ when, under the screenname "schaf4206", he shipped the $10,000 GTD Weekly Sunday for $3,857.
Also worth mentioning is Greg "GS656404" Steinberger nailing down his biggest win on New Jersey sites after shipping the WSOP.com NJ/888poker NJ Daily $10K on Sunday for $4,071.
Meanwhile, there was a huge shake-up in the top spots in the PocketFives New Jersey Online Rankings, which ranks the best online poker tournament players on New Jersey-regulated poker rooms. With his win in the $50,000 Guarantee, Yong "ykwon17" Kwon propelled himself to the top spot in the rankings, unseating the long-time number one player Michael "JohnnyDrama" Haberman Jr. who dropped to third place.
Keith "donnysack" Donovan climbed from third place to second place in the rankings while Daniel "RedsoxNets5" Sewnig held steady in the number four spot. Former top-ranked player Andrew "Mergulas" Glauberg fell out of the top five into sixth place, replaced by Mike "Lav519" Lavenburg. There could be another shake-up next week with the race being tight and big tournaments ahead.
