Gordon Vayo

Last year, all eyes were on Gordon "holla@yoboy" Vayo in his quest to become the 2016 World Series of Poker Main Event winner. While Vayo fell short of winning the coveted gold bracelet, he did manage a huge payday by collecting the tournament's runner-up prize of $4,661,228.

Vayo is once again making headlines, this time for winning the SCOOP-01-H: $1,050 NLHE Phased tournament at PokerStars. The top prize was slated to be just north of $1 million, but he collected $692,461 as part of a rare five-way deal.

The tournament featured many Phase 1s. A total of 566 players advanced to Phase 2 with the knowledge they would be walking away with a minimum cash of at least $2,100.

Only 36 players survived the first day of Phase 2. Among the players to make it to the second day and fall shy of the final table included Daniel "mrGR33N13" Colman (35th place - $14,266), Martin "'0PIGGBANK'" Finger (19th place - $20,329), Marco "Salsicha" Alves (15th place - $28,968), Fred "fred_volpe" Volpe (14th place - $28,968) and Mads "madsamot" Amot (13th place - $41,280).

According to the PokerStars Blog, Belgium's "girafganger7" began the final table with the chip lead. "Rebel FishAK" (ninth place - $58,822) lasted less than one orbit on the final table when his ace-queen was outmatched by the pocket kings held by Canada's "bishbcray".

Jeff "kidwhowon" Gross, who was streaming to his large Twitch audience, was the next player eliminated about an hour later in eighth place for $83,821 when his ace-nine was unable to improve against Vayo's ace-jack.

Almost instantly following the elimination of Gross, India's "omgsammjesus" hit the rail in seventh place for $119,442 when his ace-queen was unable to hold against the king-ten suited held by "girafganger7".

Finland's "KissMyAcePlz" banked the sixth-place prize of $170,203 when his pocket nines were unable to outflip the ace-queen held by Australia's "Vico$sarpini".

At this point, play was paused for the remaining five players to discuss a deal. ICM figures were exchanged and a deal was agreed upon with $100,000 left to play for the winner after players agreed to give "girafganger7" a little bit more due to his big 2:1 chip advantage to the next closest player.

Very soon after the deal was consummated, three players were eliminated in quick succession. "Vico$sarpini" was the first to go in fifth place for $451,015 when his jack-nine proved to by no match to "girafganger7's" ace-king suited.

Vayo then eliminated "Yakiddinme" in fourth place for $480,000 when his pocket sixes was able to outflip his opponent's queen-jack. Vayo then also eliminated "bishbcray" in third place for $413,910 when his king-ten suited held against his opponent's king-nine suited.

After the pair of eliminations, Vayo climbed into a narrow chip lead against his opponent. He extended his chip lead to a 3.5:1 advantage before "girafganger7" was able to even things back up once again.

On the final hand of play, Vayo flopped the world with six-five suited when two sixes appeared on the board. "Girafganger7" held top pair with ace-queen on the turn when a queen appeared. "Girafganger7" was eliminated in second place for $745,000 after he jammed once a nine completed the board on the river. While "Girafganger7" was unable to win the title, he did collect the largest prize of the tournament.
