Tam Truong Dominates Pot Limit Omaha Final Table at Sydney Championships 0001

Tam Truong eliminated eight of his nine opponents at the final table of the $550 Pot Limit Omaha Re-entry event to win the title and $19,185 at the Star Sydney Championships.

Tran, a Melbourne native who had five titles at the Star Sydney poker room prior to his victory on Saturday, defeated Wolf Konnecke heads up after flopping a straight against two pair and holding on through the turn and river. The elimination sealed another commanding performance in Australia.

"That was a pretty amazing run," Truong told the Star Poker Live Reporting Team. "I just focused on playing my game and doing my best to only go all in when I was a big favorite."

"I won a big pot early on with the nut flush," Truong added. "That helped me build some momentum and I just tried my best to hold on to that."

The Action

It took only 12 hours of fast-paced Omaha action to complete the tournament. A total of 137 entries generated a prize pool $68,500, with the top 15 getting paid. The bubble burst after midnight local time and the final table was reached two hours later with Trong firmly in control.

From there, Trong continued to build his lead, eliminating Andre Acopian, Tom Pongrass, Lisa Chiang, Najeem Ajez and Zane Matheson in a span of only 30 minutes to leave only five players remaining. Trong had approximately 900,000 of the 1,370,000 chips in play at that point.

Dillon Hall then eliminated Anthony Oddy before the Trong buzzsaw continued with the removals of Stanley Woo (4th) and Hall (3rd). Despite sitting back and keeping his hands clean throughout the final table, Konnecke was able to snag the lead from Truong briefly during their heads-up match, but Truong regained control and then put his opponent away on a board of 9?J?7?. All the chips went in with Truong holding K?Q?10?8? for a straight against the K?J?10?9? of Konnecke (two pair), and the 6? turn and 3? put an end to the tournament.
