Throwback Thursday: Phil Ivey Opens his Namesake Poker Room at Aria

1 min read

Yesterday marked the end of an era.

Back in May 2010, Aria opened The Ivey Room, a high stakes cash game area named after Phil Ivey. Since then, professional poker players, tech billionaires, and other elites sat in The Ivey Room playing some of the highest stakes poker in the world.

Well, as of yesterday, February 20th, "The Ivey Room" is no more. The room remains, but the plaque bearing Phil Ivey's name was removed and replaced by a plaque reading "Table 1."

This week's Throwback Thursday highlights an interview with the often mysterious and reserved Phil Ivey. In this video from the opening of the Ivey Room in 2010, Kristy Arnett gets Phil Ivey to open up about his early days playing poker. Well-known poker pros Eli Elezra, David Williams, and Phil Laak express their excitement about Aria's new high stakes cash game room and talk about... goulash? Yup. That would be Phil Laak.
