Peel Reels 'Em In

We just managed to rush over and catch Scott 'Banana' Peel and another opponent all-in preflop and catch the cards as they were revealed:

Opponent: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}
Peel: {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

The flop of {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{q-Hearts} put Peel in the lead, but he wasn't out of the woods yet and he certainly knew it.

"No spade, no spade!" he pleaded, clasping his hands over his face, unable to watch.

However the turn and river ran out {4-Hearts}, {9-Hearts} to double him up to 71,000 in chips, leaving his opponent on life support.

We've All Felt That Way ...

An irate player from one of the cash games stormed past us on his way out of the Crown Poker Room, yelling and screaming after a brutal bad beat.

"I'm never playing poker again!" he cried. "Until tomorrow, anyway."

Perhaps a good night's sleep will do the man some good.

Lee's Jacks Are Good

Lee (during Opening Event): still alive
Lee (during Opening Event): still alive
Dave Lee and another opponent ended up with all their money in the middle preflop and we got there as the cards were revealed:

Lee: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

The board of {10-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{q-Spades}{k-Hearts} improved neither hand; the opponent is still alive but more importantly, Lee is up to 45,000 in chips.

Birman Scores Chips

Paul Birman moved his stack into the middle preflop with {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and found himself flipping for his tournament life against an opponent's pocket queens.

Birman fell further behind on the flop of {9-Clubs}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs} but the {k-Hearts} spiked on the turn, which held up after the {2-Diamonds} blanked out on the river to see him double up.

Birman is up to 25,000 in chips after that hand.

Huntly Doubles Up

Huntly: still in the hunt
Huntly: still in the hunt
Dennis Huntly got the last of his money into the middle on a board that read {j-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} with {k-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and found himself dominating an opponent's {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts}.

Needing to dodge the case jack, four or ace, the river was a harmless {9-Spades} and Huntly doubled up to around 35,000 in chips.

Sachinidis Stacks a Player

Jim Sachinidis has settled into a good rhythm and is currently on 27,000 in chips after eliminating another opponent.

The opponent got the last of his money into the middle preflop with {8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}, but found himself dominated by Sachinidis' {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}.

Sachinidis caught top pair on the flop of {j-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and the turn and river came running {6-Diamonds}, {6-Spades} to reduce the player count by one.

Esbo Gets Crackin'

An opponent raised all in for 11,000 from under the gun and the action folded around to Jonas Esbo who called from the big blind.

Esbo: {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

The dealer spread the board of {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{j-Spades}{4-Clubs}, sending the player to the rail and Esbo's stack up to 25,000 in chips.

Damien Lui Eliminates Marchese

Damien Lui has just eliminated German Marchese in a huge hand on table 48.

After some heavy action preflop, Lui and Marchese were the only two out of four players involved that ended up with their money in the middle.

Lui: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Marchese: {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

The board was spread {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{q-Clubs}; amazingly, Lui had managed to score a backdoor flush against Marchese's top set - and it would have been even more beneficial had the other two players who folded preflop been involved.

One claimed to have folded pocket fours while the other had apparently folded pocket sixes! Could you imagine - set over set over set beaten by a backdoor flush?

In any case, it was still very profitable for Lui, who is now on 68,000 in chips. Marchese was left with nought.
