Marchese Makes His Move

Sherif Zacca opened to 26,000 from middle position, and small blind Kevin Stani made the call. In the big, Tom Marchese squeezed in a raise to 76,000 total, and Zacca tanked and folded. Stani shot a glance over at Marchese though, and he four-bet to 200,000 straight. A pained Marchese smooth called, Stani having about 225,000 left in front of him.

The flop came {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {2-Spades}, and Stani committed that remainder to the pot. Marchese said something about not being able to fold, and he reluctantly called off the rest to put Stani at risk. It was the right call:

Stani: {A-Spades} {Q-Spades}
Marchese: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs}

It looked like Stani asked if Marchese meant to just flat-call preflop, but it was pretty clear the chips were going in one way or the other. Stani was going to need a queen to stay alive.

The turn {9-Hearts} and river {2-Hearts} could not provide the lady Stani needed in his life, and he has been eliminated at the hands of Marchese. With that, the winner of the inaugural NAPT event has vaulted his way up the leaderboard, nearly doubling up himself. He's at about 925,000 right now, though we'll have to let him stack up before we can get a better eyeball on that.
