Malaysia's Chin Wei Lim topped a star-studded 50-player field to win the PokerStars European Poker Tour Prague 25,000 Single Day High Roller. He defeated Dutchman Jorryt van Hoof heads-up after an entertaining final table that featured High Roller regulars Matthias Eibinger and Timothy Adams.

This victory caps a breakout year for Lim, with nine cashes at PokerStars events this year as well as three separate seven-figure cashes in London and Rozvadov.

With lifetime cashes of $8.4m, Lim sits fifth on the Malaysian all-time money list with $7.7m of that coming in 2019 alone.

Field of High Rollers

Cards were in the air at 12:30 pm and as expected, the field was full of poker talent out for the latest five-figure buy-in tournament here in Prague.

Early eliminations included Rainer Kempe, George Wolff, Matthias Eibinger and Jean-Noel Thorel, but with unlimited re-entries for the first eight levels, the likes of Eibinger and Thorel weren't away from the table for long.

The elimination of Sergio Aido by Daniel Dvoress saw the Canadian make a runner-runner flush with ace-king against the ace-king of Aido to move close to 400,000 in chips.

Chidwick's Double Hopes Dashed

Sam Greenwood and 50,000 Super High Roller champion Stephen Chidwick also sat on big stacks, but it aws Michael Soyza in the lead as registration came to a close, eliminating Adrian Mateos with ace-king against ace-ten.

Just seven of the 50 players would cash, with a min-cash worth 63,020. That was still a long way off, and by the time dinner break arrived, it was Eibinger atop the counts ahead of Pavel Plesuv and Chidwick.

However, Chidwick's hopes of winning a second tournament in two days were dashed when a series of doubles for his opponent saw him miss out on a seat at the final table, along with Steve O'Dwyer and Michael Soyza.

Final Table

The first major confrontation of the final table came when Sam Greenwood ran his pocket kings into the aces of Jun Obara. He was left short and would bust less than an orbit later.

There were doubles for Jorryt van Hoof and Yang Wang before Scott Margereson would fall just short of the money. He lost a flip with ace-ten against the pocket fives of Timothy Adams to fall in seventh.

Wang (7th - 63,020) and Plesuv (6th - 78,035) were the first eliminations in the money, at the hands of Eibinger and Obara respectively, before five doubles for four different players held up proceedings five-handed.

Fast Pace Short-Handed

That was until Obara ran ace-six suited into the queens of Chin Wei Lim to bust in fifth for 102,040 and Adams followed him out the door after a blind on blind confrontation with Eibinger to bust in fourth for 132,055.

Eibinger, sporting a Christmas hat for the entirety of the final table, had earlier looked to exert his dominance and wealth of High Roller experience on proceedings, but he would bow out in third for 174,070 when he ran king-eight into the ace-eight of Lim.

This gave Lim a strong lead heads-up that he never looked like losing. Van Hoof failed to gain any foothold in the contest, and despite one all in resulting in a chop when the board ran out a straight, he succumbed on the second occasion to hand victory to the Malaysian.

Jorryt van Hoof Eliminated in 2nd Place (273,120)

Level 21 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Jorryt van Hoof
Jorryt van Hoof

Chin Wei Lim limped in on the button and Jorryt van Hoof raised it up to 410,000 from the big blind. Lim announced all in and van Hoof called off his stack of 1,710,000.

Chin Wei Lim: {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Jorryt van Hoof: {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

Lim was holding the ace-jack once again that his rail deemed to be the lucky hand. Unlike last time, Lim flopped the best hand this time around when the {j-Spades}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts} hit the felt. The {k-Diamonds} on the turn and the {k-Clubs} on the river was not going to save van Hoof who was eliminated in second place.

Lim claimed the title along with the first-place prize of 378,160 and a full recap of the tournament will be posted shortly.

Van Hoof Doubles Without a Sweat

Level 21 : 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Jorryt van Hoof shoved all in for 730,000 on the button and Chin Wei Lim gave it some thought before making the call.

Jorryt van Hoof: {k-Spades}{2-Diamonds}
Chin Wei Lim: {j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

The flop came {k-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} and van Hoof made two pair to leave Lim drawing slim. The {q-Clubs} on the turn locked things up before the {a-Hearts} on the river completed the board.

Lim Increases His Lead

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

On a {6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} turn Chin Wei Lim checked and Jorryt van Hoof bet 300,000.

Lim used a time extension before calling. The river was the {9-Clubs}. Both players checked and Lim showed {10-Spades}{9-Spades} for a missed gutshot straight draw but a rivered pair, and took down the pot.

Van Hoof Narrows the Gap

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 80,000 ante

Chin Wei Lim raised to 200,000 on the button and Jorryt van Hoof called from the big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Spades} and van Hoof check-called a bet of 110,000 from Lim.

The {q-Hearts} landed on the turn and van Hoof checked again. Lim counted out a bet of 380,000 and van Hoof went into the tank for what seemed like forever. After using the last of his four time extensions, van Hoof finally announced all in for 1,100,000. Lim wasted little time before mucking his cards and van Hoof collected the pot.
