Chidwick Doubles Into Chip Lead

Level 21
Stephen Chidwick (Day 2)
Stephen Chidwick (Day 2)

No-Limit Hold'em

Stephen Chidwick was in early position and he cut out a raise to 8,500. Action came around to Devin Looney in the cutoff and he three-bet to 19,500. Action folded back to Chidwick who shipped all in over the top for 173,000. Looney went into the tank for some time before dropping forward a call.

Chidwick: {6-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Looney: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}

The two were racing for Chidwick's tournament life heading to the flop. The dealer fanned {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}, giving Looney top pair but Chidwick the lead with a set of sixes. Looney found no help on the turn ({3-Spades}) or the river ({8-Spades}) and he was forced to ship a majority of his chips over to Chidwick. Chidwick is now sitting pretty with the chip lead of 359,000.

Ninety-Seven For Ivey

Level 21

2-7 Triple Draw

Daniel Negreanu opened with a raise from the cutoff and Phil Ivey called out of the big blind. Ivey pulled three on the first draw while Negreanu opted for two. Ivey led with a bet and Negreanu called.

For the second draw, both players opted for just one new card. Ivey fired once again and Negreanu stuck around. Ivey stood pat on the final draw and Negreanu pulled one. Both players checked and Ivey fanned {9-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} for the win. The nine-time bracelet winner is now up to about 260,000 in chips.

Welcome to PokerNews' Day 3 coverage of Event #50: $1,500 Eight-Game Mix. The starting field of 485 entrants is down to just 14 players, each with hopes of capturing a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet. First place is set at $167,332 and leading the way into Day 3 is Dan Heimiller with 227,000. Only 13 players stand between Heimiller and a second gold bracelet of the summer, but these arent just any 13 players.

Daniel Negreanu and Phil Ivey both remain, sitting ninth and third in chips, respectively. For Negreanu, it's his eighth cash of the 2014 WSOP and another chance to capture his seventh bracelet. Ivey, meanwhile, has struggled this summer. It's only his third cash, but having just two days ago cashed in Event #48, things might be turning about for the nine-time bracelet winner. A 10th bracelet is within his sights. Among the others still in the field include bracelet winner Aaron Steury and perennial WSOP casher Stephen Chidwick.
