2022 WSOP Day 31: Cates Crowned PPC Champ on a Crazy Day of Action

Nothing could have prepared poker fans for what was in store on Day 31 of the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Las Vegas; it was nothing short of incredible. Four players captured gold WSOP bracelets, two of them having staging epic comebacks, while Dan Cates wrote himself into poker history by winning back-to-back $50,000 Poker Player Championship titles.

Event #56: $50,000 Poker Players Championship crowned its worthy champion and Dan Cates was that man. Cates won this tournament in 2021 and he now has back-to-back victories in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship after defeating Yuri Dzivielevski heads up.

Cates was not the only player to capture a much sought-after piece of poker jewelry because Tamas Lendvai claimed one of their own after taking down Event #57: $600 Deepstack Championship No-Limit Hold'em. Lendvai came out on top of the final seven grinders who reached the fourth and final day to get their hands on $299,464 and their first gold WSOP bracelet. The victory was made sweeter by the fact Lendvai came back from being the shortest stack with only eight big blinds!

The only Short Deck event's title went to none other than Japanese star Shota Nakanishi who triumphed in Event #60: $10,000 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em. Only five of the 110 starters progressed to the third and final day, and it was Nakanishi who was the last man standing. The victory came with $277,212 in prize money plus that all-important 2022 WSOP bracelet.

Event #62: $1,500 Super Turbo No-Limit Hold'em is done and dusted after an unscheduled second day was required. Twenty players returned to the action on June 30 and it was Dash Dudley who emerged from the battle unscathed. Dudley only had three big blinds at the start of play yet here is, winning his third WSOP bracelet! The poker champion secured $301,396 for their efforts.

Five Remain in the Super Seniors; Gianera Leads Them Back Into Battle

Only five players remain in Event #59: $1,000 Super Seniors and it is Massoud Eskandari (19,000,000) who leads them back into battle at 11:00 a.m. local time on July 1. Eskandari has 12 big blinds more than Jennifer Gianera (16,500,000), who has high hopes of becoming only the second female player of the 2022 WSOP to win a bracelet.

Joining Eskandari and Gianera are James Jewell (8,425,000), Peter Mylenki (4,200,000) and Sharri Crawford (4,200,000).

The returning players have now locked in $85,940 for their efforts but one of them will walk away with a $330,,609 top prize.

Ladies Event Whittled to Only 42 Players; Andrews Finds Herself Atop the Chip Counts

Cherish Andrews holds a commanding lead going into Day 3 of Event #61: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Championship. Andrews has 1,800,000 chips at her disposal with Natalie Hof her nearest rival with a stack of 1,100,000 chips; Andrews and Hof are the only players from the 42 returning to the action that has seven figures worth of chips.

Day 1 chip leader Gargee Sharma (625,000) bagged up a top 10 stack, while Ronit Chamani (600,000), Melanie Weisner (560,000), Charlotte Van Brabander (380,000), and GGPoker Squd member Pamela Balzano (165,000) are still in contention.

The cards are back in the air from 12:00 p.m. local time on July 1.

Record-Breaking $10K PLO8 Event Reaches Day 2 With Rheem Remaining

Chino Rheem is the man to catch in Event #63: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship where only 20 of the 284 starters �C the biggest ever field for this event �C remain in the hunt for a gold WSOP bracelet and the $611,362 top prize.

A bracelet still eludes Rheem despite his impressive live poker records, which has seen him earn more than $12.4 million. Rheem will see this as his best chance of getting his hands on some poker gold because he returns to the fray with more than 100 big blinds at his disposal.

The likes of Filippos Stavrakis (1,880,000), Amnon Filippi (1,275,000), Ken Aldridge (1,075,000), and Robert Cowen (840,000) will be hoping to spoil Rheem's party and scupper his plans of victory.

Reigning champion Josh Arieh (370,000) is still in the mix but is one of the event's shortest stacks.

The 20 surviving players return to their seats from 2:00 p.m. on July 1 and will play until only five of them have chips in front of them.

Event #63: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Top 10 Chip Counts

Soumier Is The Player to Catch in the $600 PLO Deep Stack Event; Mizrachi Bags 1M

The action in Event #64: $600 Pot-Limit Omaha Deep Stack was fast and furious with the 2,265 starters being reduced to only 102 over the course of 22 fast-paced levels. Frenchman Guillaume Soumier coped the best and finished with 3,055,000 chips and the title of overnight chip leader.

Among the returning 102 players are bracelet winners Tommy Le (1,310,000), Michael Mizrachi (1,015,000), and Alan Sternberg (835,000). 888poker ambassador and PLO specialist Vivian Saliba (830,000) also bagged for Day 2.

Day 2 shuffles up and deals at 12:00 p.m. local time and the intention is to play down to a champion.

Event #65: $3,000 Freezeout No-Limit Hold'em drew in 1,359 players but only 226 of those starters bagged and tagged their stack after the completion of 15 levels. bagging the most chips was Turkish grinder Onur Unsal (1,244,000) who was the only player in the field t finish with over one million chips.

Bracelet winners Alex Lindop (680,000) and Timur Margolin (645,000) bagged up top 10 stacks, while other gold bracelet owners Romain Lewis (453,000), 2019 WSOP Main Event champion Hossein Ensan (440,000), the legendary Phil Hellmuth (349,000), Mike Matusow (322,000), and Adrian Mateos (164,000) are just some of he superstars to look out for on Day 2.
